Review - The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod by Heather Brewer

The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod by Heather Brewer
Publisher: Dutton's Childrens Books
Hardback

No! Not another teen vampire series! Yes, I'm afraid it is. But don't despair, Heather Brewer's The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod series has more going for it than just having blood sucking heart throbs. Actually, you could almost say that this is the anti-Twilight teen vampire novel.

Vladimir Tod (really, that name just SCREAMS vampire) is your typical teenage boy. Horribly shy around good looking girls, gets picked on by the school bullies, and revels in playing the goriest video games he can find. The only difference is, he is a vampire and he just may be some sort of vampire messiah, come to earth to rule the vampires and enslave the human race... if he can pass geometry. While the Twilight vamps are perfect demigods, Vlad is more easy to relate to for us non-glittering in the sunlight beings. It's easier to feel sympathy for Tod as he goes through many of the same emotions and problems that almost all teenagers face at sometime in their lives.

Currently there are three books published in the series; Eighth Grade Bites, Ninth Grade Slays and Tenth Grade Bleeds. Book 4 is due out February 2010 and I, for one, can't wait!
